ZigBee is a specification based on the IEEE 802.15.4 standard for wireless personal area networks (WPANs). ZigBee operates in the ISM radio bands and its focus is to define a general purpose inexpensive, self-organising, mesh network that can be used for a wide variety of applications.

The ZB-2570 (Host) and ZB-2571 (Slave) modems support 3 different methods of communication ( RS232, RS485 and Ethernet ) and the main design goal was to provide and simple and effective alternative to wired solutions.

These ZigBee converters have 6 operating modes:
Serial - Transparent Addressable (for serial devices without a network ID), Transparent Non-Addressable and ModBus RTU.
Ethernet - As per the serial modes except transmission over Ethernet and the ModBus mode is ModBus TCP/IP.

The transmission frequency range of the units is between 2.405GHz and 2.480GHz, providing 16 channels in 5MHz steps. This also provides 65535 PanID's for the user to set up a Network Group.
